Court of Appeal clears path for trial

Three justices of the Court of Appeal held a directions hearing on 15 March on the grounds and timetable for Wang Yam's appeal.

In the first minute, the Lord Chief Justice ordered the court into closed session (in camera). The hearing lasted less than an hour.

From sources close to the events it became clear that the defense was given leave to widen its grounds for appeal (though these grounds are not public) and that the Court of Appeal is now ready to hear the case.

According to the Court of Appeal listing office, the hearing is likely to take place this session, which ends at the end of July 2017.

The Court of Appeal hearing follows on from a CCRC decision that referred the case for review.
